Punch Drunk

What a fantastic first episode. While this may be a bit of hyperbole, I haven't been this excited about a new Challenge since Fresh Meat 2. Okay there's only been Cutthroat in-between but still. I thought I was over Kenny and his crew dominating the Challenge but it certainly adds a much different dimension having them back in the game. Plus, this time around, Wes is by default part of their alliance. And the best part is that the new distruptor is CT.

Now I don't recall who CT has aligned himself with in the past but clearly he's no Kenny supporter. After carting off Johnny last season, I feel like nobody is going to be man enough to step to CT. Of course, he is a susceptible to mind games, an area both Kenny and Wes excel at. I'm actually starting to think that having Adam as a partner is going to be good for CT as Adam K. could be the brains behind the brawn.

Speaking of Adams, Adam R. must be the dumbest contestant on the show ever. To be baited by someone of Ty's caliber is embarassing. I thought the fight would be a bit more dramatic but essentially it was just Adam R. chasing Ty around and then unleashing a blind side punch. Weak sauce. Adam R. looks like he should be fronting an indie band but Yasmine tells me that he's always like when drunk. Oh well, so long Adam R., at least now we can stop referring to two Adams on the blog.

I really wish we had added the "reading the text" bonus because that would have provided some random excitement mid episode. It's a rule change we should enact now I say!

Let's talk about the emotional TJ comeback. While it might be slightly controversial to say that Jenn cried, I say we give her the points because her eyes were definitively moist and surely she must have shed many tears at seeing TJ (the Simmons league gave her crying points). I was hoping for a group hug there but nobody dared cross the line to say hey to TJ. I'm also sort of thinking we should enact some sort of bonus rule for hooking up with TJ. Like +10 if anyone ends up kissing him, etc. Heck, just for fun we should award a +2 for making physical contact with TJ. Does he give out high fives and stuff? I'd like interactions with TJ to be accounted for in our scoring system.

While I wasn't surprised at seeing Robin and Aneesa leave, I was taken aback at how little support they received from the rest of the cast. This episode was really a new paradigm shift for the series as the "newbies" are now clearly running the show. I mean usually the vets stick around for awhile but clearly Robin and Aneesa are so old that all of their usual supporters are gone. I mean, what else could explain them getting clearly outvoted into the Jungle? I'm predicting a true breakout season for Laurel as a power player. She said in the bus -- while taking notes on her diabolical pad -- that she could easily get the fifteen or so votes to take Robin/Aneesa out. Laurel used to be a pawn of Kenny but she's clearly ready to ascend to queen status.

Robin's speech was the most pathetic attempt to save someone's hide I've ever heard. And I've played a lot of Mafia in my time, and heard a lot of terrible defenses. Robin was not only incredibly inarticulate, she couldn't even get some tears out at the crucial moment to at least appeal to emotion. I guess being an ex-Hooters waitress doesn't really prepare you for public speaking. Or maybe it's the recent motherhood. And really, if Robin is so sad to be away from her new boy, why is she on this show? A part of me did feel terrible that these old timers only got to go to Costa Rica for such a short time, but good riddance I say.

I can't wait for CT to get crazy.

i agree if someone hooks up with tj +10 pts! that's the ultimate score and adam r IS the dumbest contestant ever...to be kicked off twice? idiot but the guy they replaced him with seems like he will be entertaining.
