WotW2: Post-Draft Analysis

For the first time, we can look at how the draft turned out after the season! Was taking Laurel number one the right move? Who was the best value? Well, since this was such a veteran dominated season, the distribution of who was picked where was pretty accurate. Four of the top five scorers overall were drafted in the first two rounds, with only Tori begin taken at the top of the third.

Of course, as usual, the biggest flop was with the number one pick, where Kim selected Laurel but she only returned nineteen total points and ranked 19 out of the 32 contestants. Contrast this with Josh — also selected by Kim — who was selected absolutely last in our draft but returned fourteenth pick value! The biggest value was actually Leroy, who was selected 28th but came in with the eighth highest points. Leroy, Josh, Tori, Rogan, and Dee were the standout best values from the draft.

The biggest flops were Laurel, Kyle, Wes, CT, and Joss. CT was selected with the second pick overall by Ameer, and while he ended up winning the season, his low points only gave him the sixteenth best scores, which made his value quite low. Still, Ameer got so much draft value out of Dee and Tori — and had no problems have Tula getting eliminated quickly — that he ended up with a stellar draft.

Roger had the best plus/minus from his draft versus actual scoring, as Leroy and Zach were both drafted in the twenties but ended up in the top ten scoring, with Ashley bettering that by being drafted twelfth but finishing fifth! Only Kam was a disappointment for Roger, but even then it wasn’t by that much.

Unfortunately, Susan’s team was not so lucky. As she had both Kyle and Wes return terrible value. Plus, Faith was tossed so early, leaving Susan with only Nany returning points above what was expected. Better draft next year Susan!

Jon and Yasmine had very similar drafts, with almost all of their players being very close to their expected values. Cara Maria, Idris, and Jenny were pretty much exactly as drafted for Jon, and only Kayleigh ended up being slightly better than her 29th drafted slot. Yasmine was pretty much the same, with Turbo as her only slight disappointment, and Bear, Zahida, and Jordan performing as expected.

Victor had a huge hit with Rogan, but whiffed had on Joss (he’s so boring!), and came out about even for Ninja and Nicole (does anyone even remember her?). And George was actually spot on with Paulie, Georgia, and Esther — they each finished just one slot away from where they were drafted — and only came up way short with Sean.

And then there’s Bananas, who was drafted 17th and couldn’t even return that value, finished 25 out of 32 contestants. Is it even worth drafting the show’s face anymore? It would seem like not really…. Kim’s team had Laurel and Bananas and their power play failed, leaving Theo and Josh to carry her scoring.

Champs vs Pros: Rosters and Draft

After analyzing our historical #1 selections, we led off with Kim's first ever #1 pick, personal favorite, Darrell! See below for our teams and draft selection, plus Yasmine and I did a quickie pod episode about Invasion of the Champions and then dive into our Champs vs Pros draft!

Note we'll have to change up some of the rules after we watch the first episode, but for now we're for sure reducing all drama points to +1 (instead of +2), and maybe we'll awards points for being captain if that's how the format shakes out.

Kim: Darrell, Louie Vito, Lindsey Jacobellis
Jon: Cara Maria, Louise Hazel, Gus Kenworthy
Yasmine: Candice Wiggins, Johnny Bananas, Wes
Victor: CT, Shawne Merriman, Camila
Susan: Jordan, Kamerion Wimbley, Veronica
George: Lolo Jones, CM Punk, Tia Blanco

Undrafted: Ashley K, Ashley M

Invasion: Rosters and Draft

Last year's champ, Jon, comes out with the #1 pick and that should be a boost for him to defend his title. Then again, picking first has never really led to great success so we'll have to see what shakes out!

As for the format, we figured out halfway through that the eight champs in question might come in late in the game, which might give Yasmine's team the edge, as she passed on drafted a champ at all. As our winningest owner, this could be a tremendous risk that could pay off into reward!

Jon: Laurel, Amanda, Ashley M, Kailah
Kim: Cara Maria, Bruno, Ashley K, Theo
Victor: CT, Camila, Tony, Sylvia
Susan: Jenna, Darrell, Dario, LaToya
George: Bananas, Zach, Nelson, Anika
Yasmine: Cory, Hunter, Nicole, Marie

Undrafted: Anthony, Shane

Rivals III: Rosters and Draft

Stop me if I'm repeating myself but I'll quote from last season: "George gets yet another #1 overall pick (last year she got #1 and took Bananas)..." Is that three in a row for her? I'm glad George is good at winning something in this league! And it looks like she could be winning already after EP1, so this could be her year! #nojinx

Also, Kim is trying out the random method -- altho we question how she "randomly" got her favorite, Leroy -- and maybe that'll take her to a first title? Either way, Rivals III already looks pretty exciting!

George: Jenna, Camila, Averey, Nate
Susan: KellyAnne, Bananas, Johnny R, Cheyenne
Victor: Wes, Jaime, Tony, Brianna
Jon: Sarah, Cory, Nicole, Dario
Kim: Leroy, Jessica, Thomas, Brandon
Yasmine: Nany, Vince, Ashley, Simone

Undrafted: Devin, Christina

BotS: Draft Recap

With the new Challenge season mere hours away, I wanted to take a quick look at the draft that we just completed. We were a little under the gun for timing but I think everyone will head into tonight's viewing confident they have drafted the best team. Remember, get your team recaps up soon! Here are the final teams and the draft order.

This entire Battle of the Seasons is pretty much a Fresh Meat for our challenge league. Seriously, who are some of these contestants? We needed this though, an infusion of fresh blood. Plus, Victor tipped me off that it's possible Kenny and Evan may never be back no this show due to a lawsuit involving Tanya and a toothbrush. While I have grown to appreciate the Douchebag Trio, I am ready to part ways with them for a few years, aren't you?

ROUND ONE
After some furious research, Victor led off the draft with a semi-surprise. He selected Zach from San Diego, which surprised some draft prognosticators. Then again, Zach is gigantic, six foot three, and a former college wide receiver. I even looked at his highlight reel. It seems like Zach could be poised to be the Evan of his generation but time will tell if he's actually an athletic marvel or just a mountain.

HT quickly snatched up Alton next, as he's rarely lost Challenges and seemed like a safe top pick. To be honest, even if he's a little older, we're excited to see what the Michael Jordan of the Challenge still has left in the tank. With his first pick, Jon debated but went with Trishelle, who is dear and near in the hearts of any MTV Real World watcher. She's guaranteed at least some hook up points, although time could have mellowed out her wild ways. Nah.

Yasmine and Kim went newbies with their first picks too. Frank from San Diego was a coveted choice because he seems to have all the tools to become a Challenge All Star. He's going to hook up, he's going to get drama, he's prone to crying, and he looks somewhat physically capable. The intriguing pick is Jonna, who has often been overshadowed by her Cancun castmate, Jasmine. We personally think Jonna is wonderful, and is poised for a breakout season. George wrapped up the first round by going with old reliable, Wes. Ugh. Nobody likes Wes. I wish they had left him off this cast. I hope the newbies all just ignore his conniving ways.

ROUND TWO
Somehow, Dustin at the top of the second round seems like a good pick. That's how much this cast is an unknown. Dustin who got a boo boo on his knee and had to leave Battle of the Exes. And how about Marie from St. Thomas breaking into the top eight? I literally know nothing about her, as I've not seen this season of Real World. Kim clearly has the inside scoop there though.

Nany and Jemmye have the best names so I think they were drafted just on the strength of that alone. Plus Nany is very beautiful, which leads HT to believe she will be excellent in the Challenge (even though Yasmine drafted her). I drafted Jemmye based on a Bill Simmons / Jacoby podcast from years ago, talking about how her misshapen name would mean great things.

Bringing up the rear is Sarah and Chet. The upside for Sarah is that she'll den mother everyone but we're pretty sure she's no longer got any championship potential. And Chet, well, we're still trying to figure out how he bagged Mandi.

ROUND THREE
In a gutsy move, Victor nabbed Cara Maria here, even though the official MTV site does not list the Fresh Meat team. So we aren't sure if they're in this season, or when they show up. Still, Cara Maria has to be a steal in RD3, if she's indeed on the show. And as always, I'm bitter someone stole Cara Maria from me.

We think Jasmine and Camila are great value picks here, as both of them are feisty and could be considered almost veterans. Same goes for Brandon, who has proven to be better than most would think. Then again, will being a veteran even count on this season, when the new outnumber the old?

Yasmine took Trey from St. Thomas, and while he looks athletic, and apparently played some college football, he also seems like a clean cut boring guy. We're thinking he's a low end version of Pete. Feel free to prove me wrong Trey. And Ashley is here just to look good and swoon over Zach. If Team San Diego can go far, she'll just be along for the ride.

ROUND FOUR
We think this is the round that will decide the championship. Someone among McKenzie, Laura, or Devyn will emerge as a huge player. Will it be McKenzie (is that her first name?) sloshing her way to big points? Or will Laura use her wilderness skills to great effect? Or maybe Devyn will prove to have some fight in her?

The one thing we know for sure is that Melinda is over the hill. What a big fall from a girl who used to be a princess of the Challenge. And let's not even talk about Derek and CJ, who are probably non-factors as they are both boring and non-athletic -- even though CJ in theory should be good at competitions. Too bad there's not much punting in these challenges.

ROUND FIVE
In a shocker, Eric aka "Easy E" gets selected. Like at all. How this guy gets invited back to these things is beyond me. We know what Eric brings to the table and he's guaranteed to at least last halfway through I guess. The rest of the round was a race to see who wouldn't be selected. I thought it might be Danny, who really must be just insulted to have dropped so far down. But really, what has Danny ever done (recently)?

The steal of the draft here could be Robb, who is six six and a former basketball player. Jon is really hoping Robb's ginger looks hid his ability from the rest of the drafters. In a race to figure who the non-competing contestants would be, Kim and George saved JD and Lacey from the scrapheap. That leaves Knight and Preston sitting on the bench. Preston has his own issues with toothbrushes and despite looking like Rajon Rondo, was probably a good choice to be undrafted. Knight, however, should be worth at least a few drunken points right? I guess people just don't like him!

Draft Recap: For Another League

So this year, I was asked by Challenge Forums to run another league just like ours -- except they added "You killed it" when TJ says it to somebody as a bonus. It was interesting to see what other people would do with our rules. Read below for how their draft unfurled!

The show hasn't even started and we've got our first controversy and an owner booted! If that doesn't mean we're headed for a great season then we don't love our MTV. As first time participants of fantasy MTV Challenge, I was really curious how six complete strangers would assess the point scoring prowess of our favorite reality television personalities.

Would competitiveness and challenge ability win out over drama and tantrums? We'd love to hear more from each owner about why they picked each player and what kinds of secret strategies they harbored as they drafted. For now, we'll just take a look at how the draft for Challenge Forum's Battle of the Exes unfurled. Plus, here are the team rosters.

Round 1
While there was some talk about Rivals' rookie of the year Jasmine being the top pick, the clear choice for number one overall is Chris Tamburello. CT would have won last year's Challenge in a walk if his partner wasn't so stupid, and he's back for the first time as a fan favorite. Everyone's cheering for CT to finally win one of these and this will probably be his best chance. CT! CT!

From the look of the previews and last year's outstanding showing, Jasmine is a five tool player. She hooks up, she unleashes verbal barrages, she cries, she is likely to be blurcled, and she's feisty enough to intimidate in some of the eliminations. The only question is how long will Jasmine stick around? It might not matter, as Jasmine is capable of putting up MVP numbers even in limited time.

Now we get to the controversy. On no planet except a cheating planet would Ty be picked ahead of many of the contestants selected later in this round. In his two recent Challenge appearances, Ty has been pathetic both times and while he's got a lot of crazy potential, he's pretty useless at competitions. What did ousted owner Kylexy know that we don't? (How to cheat apparently.) Either way, Kylexy has been booted and we all know that spoilers aren't usually accurate anyway. We applaud Expert for dumping Kylexy, as swift justice tells everyone that this league is all about fair play. Thanks for joining us Alaina! For your sake let's hope Ty doesn't suck as poorly as he usually has.

At the #4 slot, Kenhoffy took Robin, a very interesting pick as we all know Robin is around for her veteran social muscle and tears, not her work in direct competition. Last season we saw the old vets get tossed overboard pretty soon -- because there were too many (relative) newbies who had overtaken the throne -- so I'm curious how long Robin and Mark will last. Either way, we might as well give Robin a few crying points now, as she's good for at least two instances before she gets booted off. This is Robin's ninth Challenge and didn't she say something last season about wanting to spend more time with her new kid? Bravo mother of the year!

Merideth has been paying attention. We've been predicting Camila's breakout season for quite some time now and we think Battle of the Exes is it. While we're unsure of the nature of her and Johnny's hookup from Rivals, we are sure that Camila is a tough competitor who has plenty of attitude to spare. She's headed for some major bonus and competition points, and we think she'll finally have the social muscle to avoid getting tossed into all the eliminations. This Brazilian crazy is our dark horse female MVP.

Paula finally won a Challenge last season after nine tries and while we'd love to say that she's got repeat potential, our analysts are pretty sure that the drop off from having Evelyn as a partner to Dunbar is pretty steep. We'd be shocked if Paula makes it past mid-season. Queue up some crying points for her too though.

Round 2
With the wraparound pick, Challenge_fans invested in another vet, the Methuselah of the Challenge, Mark Long. Seriously man, how can you keep coming back? The good thing is that 50-year old Mark is still in great shape. The downside is that he'll take a father figure stance with all these kids who are probably literally half his age, and we can't see him getting many bonus points. But Mark is a fun guy so we can see him sticking around for awhile as he pulls into a super vet alliance.

Our last image of Wes was him crying like a little baby as his legs cramped up -- and got bloody from the rocks in his socks. Our second to last image of Wes was him carrying Kenny up a mountain. Which is the real Wes? Recently, Wes hasn't done well points wise in this Challenge, as he rubs too many people the wrong way in order to survive to the end. However, Wes is clearly first round talent that slipped and let's not underestimate the fact that this is his second partnership with Mandi. An experienced team up could pay dividends.

If this was a solo Challenge, we'd take Abram top three, easy. The question is how good will Cara Maria be? Well, Kenhoffy and Alaina are dying to know, as they took the ex-lovers in successive picks. Newsflash: Cara Maria is one of the top Challenge competitors. Overlooking Fresh Meat 2, she's made the finals every season since and is much more physically capable than she looks. With Abram around to support/antagonize her, we don't see many other teams wanting to mess with this strange duo. We'd be shocked if Abram and Cara Maria don't make the finals, dressed up in blood splattered Tanooki suits or something.

Matt gets a steal at the bottom of the second round with Johnny Bananas. Since we are so high on Camila, it makes sense that we are just as equally high on Johnny. We can't see any situation where Johnny doesn't have another long Challenge run -- except if CT decides to kill him -- and even without his douchebag trio around to help him socially, Johnny will have a pretty good shot at repeating this season. We're curious if Wes and Johnny will decide to team up versus big bad CT.

Speaking of CT, Nate decides to go all in with Diem as his second pick after scooping up her ex in the first round. We know Diem will be good for one drunken night, a few hysterical tears, and probably one hookup that will send CT bonkers. (Or is CT over that?) Diem isn't the most mentally strong contestant but she can sort of hold her own physically. Her role in this Challenge is to just play Ann Darrow to CT's King Kong and Nate is hoping that's enough to take him to the top.

Round 3
I literally know nothing about Naomi. Was she more than friends with benefits with Leroy? Were they no strings attached? Did one incept the other? What? And is it just me or do they sort of look alike? Maybe Naomi has some secret physical/dramatic powers I don't know about. Someone fill me in. Bold pick Nate, bold pick.

Another candidate for breakout player is Emily from DC. She's athletic, she's well liked, she's no longer a rookie. While it's insane that she ever liked Ty romantically, there's a decent chance they could work well together right? If the rumors are true that Ty goes far, that means Emily does too. We're hoping she sticks around as we think she's got great Challenge potential.

Even saddled by the light hearted clown that was Mike, Leroy went far last season. We think he's got the potential to do it again but we're unsure how the veterans will receive him this season. Leroy is super likeable but without knowing how quickly the vets will accept or cast him out, it's hard to predict what'll happen. He's clearly the best guy left at this point in the draft though. Solid choice.

Mandi is looking to build on her huge breakout season on Rivals -- 34 points, coming in second only to Paula's 35 points -- and cement her status as a perpetual Challenge contender. Feel great about this selection Kenhoffy, we have Mandi as a virtual lock to make it to the finals. She's got some social clout this time with Wes around and they'll hook up for sure. We'd love it if Mandi asked CT to put the choke moves on her again, but we can't see that happening. Although a tag team match between Wes/Mandi and CT/Diem would be our ultimate pay per view this season.

The man so good that he was selected twice! Tyrie is well, not actually good. While he may be twice the size of some of the other competitors, he's definitely not even half the athlete. After seeing him get pushed around by Wes and Kenny during the Blast Off elimination last season, we question if Tyrie was actually even a college football player. His job on the show will be to prevent Jasmine from ruining too many inanimate objects.

Aneesa is the definition of all blow and no show. She's been on these challenges like eight times and been pretty terrible each time as I recall. She's not only going to tank her own chances, she's gonna take Rachel down with her as a double whammy.

Round 4
There was a time when Sarah looked like a rising star in these Challenges. Remember when she came on and was all feisty and competitive and in love/hate with Kenny? That was four Challenges ago -- she's the only contestant who hasn't missed one since Ruins 2. Now she's got a track record of failure and tends to wimp out at the worst times. She's the Vince Carter of this game. Unless the entire Challenge involves swimming, Sarah and her Jersey Shore knockoff partner, Vinny, are headed for an early exit. Also, we're not sure we like the blonde hair. Actually we are sure: we hate it.

We're a little surprised Rachel wasn't drafted higher, seeing as she's tough and will have some social pull. However, her partner is Aneesa so that's probably why she sunk to such a low spot. At least Rachel's not Dunbar! Dummy Bear is a veteran guy who is always selected low because he's just boring. Traditionally, Dunbar melts into the background and just does whatever his partners tell him to do. "Lame Human" should be his new nickname.

I don't watch Real World anymore so is Dustin just an accent-less, taller, not cool version of Cohutta? Yeah it sucks that his Real World roomates shunned him for his gay porn past but that sympathy will hardly keep him around with the Challenge crowd. If RW: Vegas was smart, they'd try to form up a mini-alliance and sell their votes to the highest bidder. Why doesn't this ever happen?

Matt tried to take Tyrie again but will end up with Vinny instead. According to our advanced metrics, Vinny rated out as the worst Challenge player of the last four seasons. (Yes, even worse than Katelynn.) We'll see if this meathead can get past the second episode. And with the last pick of the draft, Nate takes Priscilla, who is going to get at least one blurcle an episode now that she can legally drink. Not that being underage prevented her from being blurcled in any way. There's a great chance Priscilla is coming back next season, regardless of how she finishes during Exes. We predict she could soon become a franchise player.

Undrafted
San Diego Nate would have been an intriguing pick. He has some bonus point potential but as the reigning newbie, he's likely to be tossed very soon. Heather is, well, she's headed for a quick exit. Barring a miracle, neither Nate nor Heather will be around to be picked up by the first team that loses all of their drafted players.

I'm still in disbelief that Jenn and Kenny aren't on this Challenge. They should be here. Although maybe we're all tired of Kenny. And Laurel must be pissed that she's never actually hooked up with anyone enough to be considered an Ex. I bet with her first off-season, she'll return stronger than ever. Imagine if she was here instead of Diem? Next Challenge we'd also really like Theresa and Landon back. Thanks in advance Bunim/Murray!

Draft Recap: Season 4

We only needed about two days to draft this out -- just like last year -- as each owner will only be receiving four players each. In an ideal world, we'd have seven owners to make all the teams even, but I guess with four extra contestants, they'll just have to be brought in later. This year we changed the rules a little -- doubling bonus points for more drama and adding a point if your contestant fights with their rival. Otherwise all rules stay the same and since we know exactly who these alumni are, we were ready to draft before the first episode.

Check out the draft results here and our order was: George, Yasmine, Jon, HT, Kim, Victor.

Round 1
Winning the draft lottery once again, George uses her number one pick on personal favorite Jenn. Last time she was in this lofty position, she took Evelyn, who promptly flamed out by quitting. We're pretty sure Jenn won't be quitting this Challenge and it looks like she'll assert her alpha female position again by teaming up with the veterans and chewing out the newbies. While we're not sure Jenn would have been our top pick, she's certainly a primetime player -- she went to the finals last season and scored the most points during Fresh Meat 2. Is Jenn ready to finally win a Challenge and take George to the top with her?

The rest of the first round played out as expected. Wes, Laurel, Evan, CT, and Kenny were quick off the board. There's no question that Wes, Evan, and Kenny are the strongest guys -- at least politically -- and they're sure to go far. And Laurel, well, she's got the skills to get competition and bonus points galore. The dark horse MVP here is CT of course. Everyone knows he can pretty much beat anyone else one one one, he's sure to get major bonus points, and if he can stay on the show, he's a player with giant upside. The question is how long he'll stick around and if his weakling partner, Adam K, will drag him down. We think Kim made a great gamble here and am excited to see how CT does this season.

Round 2
Using the wise rationale that each duo is only as strong as its parts, Victor selected Cara Maria (breaking my heart in the process) and is gambling that she's not actually a weak link and will team up with Laurel to dominate the competition. With the Rivals wrinkle, the big question really will be if a weak partner will be helped by a strong one, or if the strong one will be dragged down. Kim decided it would be the former as she threw her support behind Paula, who is a much weaker competitor than her rival Evelyn, but clearly has more drama potential. Evelyn wasn't selected by defending champion Yasmine until the second to last pick of this round, three positions after Paula. Interesting no?

The Yangs decide to team up by picking up Johnny and Tyler. Now they'll have a pair to both cheer for. HT made her triumphant return to fantasy Challenge -- ala Michael Jordan after his first retirement -- by snaking Mandi, which we think was a brilliant move. Mandi is quite a strong competitor and we think she's got star potential.

Round 3
It's crazy how fast the talent pool dips after just a dozen selections. George takes Sarah, completely forgetting that Katelyn is going to totally ruin their partnership. In Fresh Meat 2, Katelyn single handedly made Brandon lose -- trust me, I owned her that season. Rumors are that Adam K (RW: Paris, or the black one) gets some loving from a cast member, so Yasmine quickly scooped up this lothario. We're not sure if Adam is actually good at challenges as all we can remember is him getting punched out by CT after running around in a onesie last time he was on the show.

Jon decides Nehemiah is worth a shot here, as in the trailer he declares that he's "not afraid of any grown ass man." That's either a lot of macho posturing or true confidence. HT proves that despite her one season respite, she was watching the show last season as she takes Cutthroat's surprise performer Camila. If the volatile Brazilian can do just as well this season, HT will have made an excellent pick. Last year's first overall selection, Theresa, is Camila's rival and her new owner, Kim, hopes that she hooks up with someone. We're hoping she hooks up with at least three people, which is definitely within her abilities.

With the last pick in the round, Victor picks Ty, who is good for a bonus point or two, but was really pathetic in his elimination round last season. He literally gave up and just lay around on the ground. Ty's going to have to do a lot this season to make up for the foul stench he gave off last time.

Round 4
We think Jasmine breaks a mirror in the preview, and while we don't know much about her, she seems quite feisty and ready to stir the pot. We'll have to ask Victor why he selected her over the remaining candidates but I bet he's got a good reason. Kim selected Brandon, last year's stalwart warrior, and she even influenced HT's next pick, by predicting that Theresa and Adam R (RW: Vegas, or the white one) have a fling. We've never seen HT get influenced by another owner's opinions but maybe she knows a little something about Adam R. You can never discount the wily ways of a champion owner who has never technically lost (yet).

At the bottom of the barrel, Jon selects Leroy based solely on his skin hue and athletic looks, while Yasmine takes Jonna for some reason I can't figure out. Who is Jonna exactly? Please enlighten us in your team post. George cleans up the draft by taking Tyrie, who looks huge and fat this season. He could either be a monster of flame out quickly.

Undrafted
Clearly everyone thinks Aneesa and Robin are the weakest female group. Nobody wanted to touch either one of them, despite their veteran status. We're not surprised to see Katelyn ownerless either. She's proven to be a terrible competitor and sure whines a lot. The big insult here could be to Davis, who might be angry enough at being passed over to put up a few drama and competition points. Or he could be eliminated first!

Draft Recap: Season 3

I thought we got through last year's draft in record time but it barely took us two days this time around. I'm pretty sure most of us didn't really know half the cast but I'm thinking that's exactly what will make this season's Challenge the best season yet. We were forced to draft solely based on prior knowledge, the precious few previews MTV released, and just gut instinct. I'm so tired of the Kenny-Wes face off anyway, I'm delighted they're gone.

Draft order: Dan, Victor, Kim, Yasmine, George, Jon

Round 1
There were a lot of possible ways to go here with the number one pick. Grab a steady veteran guy or maybe go with some of the girls who proved their mettle on Fresh Meat 2? In a move that shocked everyone, rookie owner Dan took Theresa from FM2. While Theresa did go pretty far last season, it was largely because Ryan socially navigated her through the treacherous Challenge waters. I'm thinking Dan wished he was in the Kenny-Wes-Theresa love triangle last year and wanted to secure Theresa's allegiance early for Cutthroat. We do think Theresa is stronger than people think and she's sure to score major hook up points so maybe Dan knows something we don't. We can't wait to hear Dan's rationale here.

Victor quickly took Laurel next. My odds on favorite for number one, Laurel proved she was far and away the best female last year and it doesn't look like anyone can stop her this season. Remember, Dave Jacoby called her "the Michael Phelps of the Challenge!" Plus, Laurel's a sloppy drunk who racks up major bonus points.

Johnny is all alone this season without his usual cohorts Kenny and Evan around. I'm really curious how he'll fare slugging it out by himself. Will he curb his tongue in an effort to form new alliances or will he just continue assholing his way to the top? He's the most intriguing player in the draft. I think Kim is out for blood this season as she wilted to a last place finish last year but now that she's got her bearings, she's ready to win.

Somehow I totally forgot how good Abram was in past competitions. He was a winner in Inferno 1 and 3, and this is his seventh Challenge. I had to friend threaten Yasmine not to select Cara Maria and thankfully she didn't and she took Abram instead. This looks like a pretty great pick after I saw more of the previews as it looks like Abram is a power player throughout the season. Plus, he and Cara Maria definitely start something so that's hook up points aplenty knowing the two of them.

George took Jenn, last year's surprise high scorer in FM2. There was really no question she'd select her since we know all about George's undying love for Jenn. I asked her if there was any chance she'd draft someone else. Her answer: "Only if Veronica was playing." In an equally obvious move, Jon took Cara Maria, who he probably would have been willing to sell an entire equestrian farm for. We're high on both of these girls -- even if CM was probably a reach for her lack of a track record -- and think they'll perform well.

Round 2
Oh Brad Brad Brad. Lovable loser Brad is back again and if he doesn't win this time he should really retire. He and Tori are now married so that could provide him with the stability he needs for a victory. Last time we saw Brad he instigated a fight with Darrell which caused both of them to get tossed off the show, costing his good friend lots of guaranteed cash. Jon took Brad because he feels like a lovable loser and would want to be there when Brad finally wins it all.

The rest of round two was all name brand veterans. George scooped up Derrick, Yasmine is rolling the dice with Sarah, Kim took the craziness that is Paula, and Dan surprised us again by taking Eric. Big Easy almost died on the last Challenge but he's back thirty five pounds lighter. While I'm personally shocked he went this high, Victor pointed out that due to Eric's fun loving nature and huge girth, he tends to stick around for awhile.

Actually this entire round of players should be around for awhile, as they all have the social network to avoid being eliminated early. The big question mark for me is Sarah. She had a lackluster Fresh Meat 2 season after an outstanding rookie showing at Ruins 2. Crawling out from under the shadow of Kenny, can she make another strong showing?

Round 3
Here we go with people I'm not familiar with. Dan took Derek Chavez, who's from RW: Cancun. Derek's bio says that he's an all around athlete and I think he has a nice smile so maybe he'll survive while? I mean, being a nice guy athlete has to count for something right?

Victor selected Vinny next, who is a physical powerhouse but not the smartest kid on the block. No matter, the ladies love Vinny so that's hookup points, and he should just outmuscle most of the competition. Until a math question or something. There was a brief cry "I wanted her!" hubbub when Kim selected Emily from DC. She was definitely the better of the two Emilys and it seems like she could be Laurel-lite. Her past relationship with Ty will probably provide some good drama and maybe a hookup point or two.

Yasmine's home for the repentant welcomed Dan of RR: Viewers' Revenge fame, who is a recovering alcoholic and was on the Island last time around. He's been clean and sober for seven months, which really isn't that long, and this Challege will either make or break him. When I hear "recovering alcoholic" that seems kind of boring but maybe his renewed focus will make him better at the events. Or he'll totally flame out and just start drinking like a fish again. I'm not sure which one Yasmine wants.

George has a soft spot for the couples on the show. With Melinda and Danny divorced, is she ready to party and go wild? She's been locked up in relationship hell for years and years so maybe this Challenge is the one where she'll make her mark. Or maybe she'll just be a shell as she tries to pick up the pieces after the divorce. I don't remember her as a competitor but she must be decent right?

Camila was Jon's dark horse due to her victory during the Spring Break Challenge. He was super high on her but has since changed his mind, with details to come during his individual team post.

Round 4
Another round of mostly unknowns, at least to me. Dunbar, Luke and Mandi were on the recent challenges but weren't overly impressive. Luke got screamed at by Evelyn and is stoned all the time (where does he get/hide his weed?). Dunbar is the Dummy Bear and is only good for one hook up session per season and a guaranteed mid-season exit. He defines "veteran boring" for this show.

Mandi is intriguing as she proved to be an excellent endurance runner during her FM2 Exile, but this Challenge is more combat orientated and nobody really knows if she's good at those tasks. George has both Jenn and Mandi, so let us relive their fantastic fight last season. "You fucking chicken headed, horse headed bitch, you fucking Tori Spelling reject!" (Edited: Whoops, Victor has Mandi, not George)

Ty from RW: DC, JD from RW: Brooklyn, and Ayiiia from RW: Cancun are all rookies and unlikely to make it very far. My favorite trivia for this group is that JD works at a dolphin trainer in San Diego. Basically he works at Sea World and as a season ticket holder, I'm hoping to see him and say hello soon. We have high hopes for Ayiiia because according to Bill Simmons' theory, girls with multiple (and useless double) vowels in their name are bound to make trouble. "Ayiiia" has five vowels in a six letter name with consecutive triple i's. Spells like Challenge gold to me.

Round 5
Wrapping up the last round are the people nobody really wants. However, there's always been at least one gem out of this group. Last year Carley was a revelation and the year prior, Cohutta outplayed his draft position by a country mile. And let's not forget that a weak player is usually dragged along for the season to serve as the sacrificial lamb. It's the "Casey rule." This year that person is likely to be Emilee or Shauvon. The bigger the chest size the worse they are at these Challenges usually (except Coral). Emilee is an ex-Hooters girl and Shauvon is well, Shauvon. They need to start hooking up right from the get go to score some points.

I think the really intriguing last round picks are Katie by Kim and Tyler by Yasmine. Katie is loud, brash, and while she sucks at events, she's definitely a social cog this season. With nine Challenge apperances under her belt -- the most ever I think -- she could a tremendous value pick. And Tyler from RW: Key West seems to be the new Ryan. Gets in good with the girls, stirs up a little trouble, and is just fun, gay, and sassy. I don't recall if he's good at Challenges but every preview has a lot of Tyler in it. I think he'll be sleeper good. I could only dream of having Tyler in this round.

Given the choice between Brandon and Shauvon, I don't know who I would've picked. Brandon is sort of a boob and Shauvon popped her boob. Of course since Shauvon offers no physical skills whatsoever, George selected Brandon, leaving me with Shauvon -- again. At least Shauvon's appearances have been memorable. A rooftop hook up session with CT and her epic fall in Ruins 2. What could befall her this season?

Speaking of CT, who's going to get him?! Wait, everyone knows he's going to replace Chet right? One of the previews shows Chet headed to the ambulance on a stretcher with a neck brace. That will open the door for the ferocious Chris Tamburello. Maybe Dan drafted Chet first in this round gunning for his eventual replacement? Sounds like a risky strategy to me, but genius if it works out. Most importantly, in this Challenge Dailies clip, Tyler says that he "would do Chet if he put some meat on his legs." Also in that clip: Chet's handsomeness is defended, his virginity debated, but yet nobody suggests that he needs to absolutely lose those glasses. Some friends they are.

One final thought: Where's Noor?! (And Pete)
