It's all fun, games, and drinking until someone goes Blackface on you.

I finally caught up on my Challenge episodes after being on a rare TV hiatus.  I have to say I'm shocked or maybe not so shocked that people are so ignorant that they think they can dress up in blackface and think that it's not a big deal.  "It's just a joke."

Even sheltered Emily at one point questions, "Is this racist?" as chocolate is being slathered on her face by fellow idiot Camilla.  But that question of doubt lasts about 2 seconds as she goes along with the joke anyway.

The thing is, everyone else in the house is apparently smarter than these two, because they just stare at them stunned.  No one thinks this is funny and are just in shock that they are seeing what they are seeing.  But I think they all, including myself, realize that what they are witnessing is outright stupidity at its worst.  Still, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't hear more outrage from the other cast members in defense of Ty.  They all just sort of quietly backed away to let Ty deal with it instead of being visibly upset themselves.

I don't think Emily and Camila are racist, because racism comes with hate and I don't believe this was their intention. They are just ignorant beyond belief.  What are they teaching in schools these days?

And I have to say, I really feel for Ty.  I've been in that type of situation before, though not so extreme.  But I mean the situation where as a minority, you are hanging around your white friends thinking you are just one of the guys, that you are feeling accepted, that no one sees color or thinks of you as different.  And then an incident like this happens and the line in the sand is drawn and you are put in your place.  And you are put there by people who are supposedly your friends.  I have been there and it's not pretty.

With all the Jeremy Linsanity lately, a lot of these "just a joke" incidents have been happening, mostly directed toward Asian Americans.  It's a lot easier to pick on the kid who doesn't speak up and call it a joke, when you don't think there will be any retaliation.  But the African American community has a lot more voice and power and most people are extra sensitive to racist actions toward this community...which makes this blackface episode all the more shocking.

Is it wrong that I want to give Emily a pass for this because I like her so much? I mean, of course it's wrong. But still, she was in a cult! Oh man, my racial conscience is getting corrupted by MTV.

I want to talk about why nobody was mad at Camila!
